We all are aware of the tragic conditions that the residents of Flint, MI are experiencing right now. The water conditions are unsafe and as the days go by the conditions worsen. It is quite evident that officials have been negligent and disregarded the issue as it has grown like an irritated rash. With lead levels so high, Flint residents have been forced to risk their health to use the poisonous water flowing through their pipes. These conditions are those of a third world country and unacceptable. There has been many efforts from all over the country to get clean water to the city, and to get those out of position who have not tried to help restore and cease what is going on.

On February 28th, celebrities and residents will gather for a free event at the Whiting Auditorium in Flint,MI. #JusticeForFlint will be held the same day as the Academy Awards, so you know where most of our attention will be. This benefit event was organized by members of Blackout For Human Rights, a network of creatives that are against human rights violations, founded by Ryan Coogler.  Hannibal Buress will be the host. According to sources such as Buzz Feed News, Coogler stated that the mission is to,

Give a voice to the members of the community who were the victims of the choices of people in power who are paid to protect them, as well as provide them with a night of entertainment, unity, and emotional healing.

During #JusticeForFlint there will be an opportunity for people in attendance and watching livestream to donate and support the cause. After a successful #MLKNOW event last month, Blackout For Human Rights is keeping the momentum going with spreading awareness and positivity and we can most likely expect a great turnout.

There will be appearances from Ryan Coogler, Janelle Monae, Ava Duvernay, Ledisi, Jessie Willams and more. If you are not able to make it, you can check out the livestream on Revolt TV. The event starts at 5PM. You definitely don’t want to miss out.

To support the communities affected by the water crisis you can text JUSTICE to 83224 and donate today.
