International Women’s Day was this Wednesday and the women of the country began a campaign called #ADayWithoutWomen, in which they were supposed to take the day off from work and just take the time to cater to themselves and their personal well-being. The overall objective was to give the world a taste of what life without women would be like, in the interest of raising people’s awareness to their importance in society, and this writer is in full support of this idea. Although I personally couldn’t fathom the idea of being without women, even for a day, I understand the point that is being made. Too often women are taken for granted at various levels of our daily lives, from in the home, to in the workplace, to in the street, women are faced with a constant barrage of abuses and mistreatments that I can honestly say that, if men had to deal with for even a WEEK, we would lose our shit. And I think sometimes we as men tend to be so oblivious to these struggles that we forget that our primary purpose, and by primary I mean that if you strip away every societal influence, the man’s role is to protect and provide for the woman as she is the bearer of life. Of course, these roles have evolved and skewed over time, but with the level that we’re at now, things are at an all time low. So I would like to use this post and dedicate it to all those highly important women out there, including both our boss and our editor-in-chief here at UncommonRealist and say thank you for everything you’ve done, everything you’re doing, and everything that you’re going to do from this day going forward. I would also like to pose this question to you all, who is the most important woman in your life? Now granted, I know the go to answer is going to be Mom’s for a lot of us out there, myself included, but I also know that there are some people out there who’s mother, while important, may not have held the biggest influence on their upbringing/way of life, so who IS the most influential woman in your lives, and what is it about her that makes her such a concrete pillar of your life?
