From underrated to the MVP of the acting game, Michael B. Jordan is known for his ample performances in films like Chronicle and Fruitvale Station. Recently you’ve probably heard quite a buzz about the actor regarding his upcoming film role as Johnny Storm (The Human Torch) in Marvel‘s Fantastic Four. Ever since the cast was announced early last year it seems as if Jordan has received the most backlash.

Majority of the criticism received was pertaining to race and tradition of the original character. As we all know in the Marvel comics Johnny Storm is a Caucasian male. In the 2015 film Johnny Storm is African American. That was one of the few changes that provoked frustration amongst long time Fantastic Four and Johnny Storm fans. Comic mavens were not having that. Michael B. Jordan‘s name has been dragged through the mud simply because he was picked for the role, but he wasn’t having that either.

In a recent article with Entertainment Weekly (read full essay here), Jordan expressed why he is “Torching the Color Line,” and mentions diversity. He concluded with a subtle message for the keyboard warriors.

To the trolls on the Internet, I want to say: Get your head out of the computer. Go outside and walk around. Look at the people walking next to you. Look at your friends’ friends and who they’re interacting with. And just understand this is the world we live in. It’s okay to like it.

Now if you are familiar with the actor then you know he is not know to be messy in any way or form. Internet trolls and critics got what they wanted in the most simple way possible, a response. In all actuality Jordan is setting a tone for many young African American actors coming behind him. Thinking long term, this is history in the making and it’s pretty fucking cool. If you didn’t get the overall message we will sum it up for you in fewer words, anything is Possible

Fantastic Four is set to release August 7,2015.
