[QOTW] What Are You Afraid Of? [Written by Brandon Williams]
Fear is something that we live with every day. For some of us, it’s the driving force that motivates us to do better each day. For other’s, it’s more of an instinct that warns us against danger and other hazards that life may throw our way. And for an unfortunate majority, it is somewhat of a combination crutch/roadblock that we allow to hold us in place or even move us backwards in our life. While most times people associate fear with negativity instantly, it must be stated that fear, though at times it’s incredibly inconvenient, is a very necessary emotion. Without fear there would be no limits for us to challenge, no heights for us to aim for. If things were not occasionally scary to us when presented, this world would be in a far worse state than it is currently in, due to the constant array of reckless behaviour that humans would be committing without fear to put a sort of rational voice back into their heads. My question to you is, what are you afraid of? Now you may feel free to answer this anyway that you like because I understand that it is a pretty open question. Some, like me, may provide the surface answer such as they have a fear of heights or bats which are two totally rational fears. Especially bats, I mean honestly they’re literally everything scary about birds and rats fused into one tiny fast little animal. If I were to go a little deeper I’d say that I fear dying alone and not just in the sense of dying and nobody cares enough to come to my funeral but, also in the sense that I’m afraid of literally dying in my room or someplace with no one even in close vicinity, like people have to find me, you know what I mean? So again, what are you afraid of? And a follow up question, what WERE you afraid of that you’ve overcome, either by willpower or simply by having no other choice??
I was once afraid of sharing my writing with others. Now I’m published and no longer afraid. Currently, I’m afraid my children are being influenced by outside forces and I cannot stop it.
That is great! I was afraid of publishing my work at one point as well. The good feedback is what eliminated that fear
Exactly!! WordPress seems to be a great place to find like-minded people. All have been kind to me offering great suggestions for improvement. Never a rude comment!
Exactly! I wish you the best with your writing!
Thanks! Same to you. 🙂
Thank you!
Thank you for sharing. I appreciate you taking the time to read and reply. Are the outside forces you fear are influencing your child coming from school or the influences they encounter on TV and other forms of Media??
A majority is coming from school. For instance my 10 year old son was told that Trump was going to send African Americans “back to Africa”. Of course you and I know better. But he was afraid. Apparently other classmates are discussing the issues surrounding the election. However, other parents have also expressed concern and we have concluded these children are probably getting it from hateful parents. Either way, regardless of where the information comes from, my children are worrying they will lose friends because of Trump. They are afraid for the safety of some friends and family members because of this talk among middle schoolers. Sad really.
Success and it’s change.
There’s no reason to fear success, even the changes it brings are good ones because they show us what we can and CAN’T be beaten by, and at the end of the day when we look back over things we can see where we were compared to where we’ve come and the fear will be totally worthwhile.
