[QOTW] Is Trump’s Trans-Military Ban Justifiable? [Written by Shae McCoy]
On Wednesday, Donald Trump made an announcement that would make him a walking contradiction and could leave many in the LGBT community without a job. Via Twitter the president stated:
Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail.
This was broken down into a series of tweets. The LGBT community and allies responded basically implying that he does not care or have any remorse for them as a collective. What happened to being treated equally in America? We forgot to read the disclaimer. There were a lot of people who agreed with Trump, expressing that they were tired of their tax dollars going to the medical expenses of Transgender service members. There was also an ongoing battle in the Capitol about whether taxpayer money should go to gender transition and hormone therapy. Civil rights and Transgender Advocacy groups plan to challenge the ban in court. Trump’s words could certainly have him facing lawsuits. It seems as if Trump is trying to reverse everything that was passed during Obama’s presidency.
Do you think that this ban is justifiable, or do you think that it is too extreme and prejudiced?
