[QOTW] 159 Homicides: Is The Authoritative System of Baltimore Doing Enough To Alleviate The Crime Rate? [Written by Shae McCoy]

Baltimore is drowning in blood and residents are becoming hopeless. A lot of people have expressed their concerns and fears about the increase in the crime rate. Amongst the homicides that have happened this year, last week may have been one of the deadliest thus far, claiming 6 lives and injuring 2. Since 2015, the crime rate has been increasing fast and gun violence hasn’t slowed down at all. Have authorities really backed off like the rumors are saying?

This past week, Charmaine Wilson was gunned down in front of her children for protecting them. Sources say that she was trying to move because of the harassment, but requests were ignored. Imagine if that keeps happening…there will be more cases like hers that will get light treatment. How are so many people getting guns on the streets? The answer is lenient gun laws. Is there hard enough work going into getting guns out of the wrong hands?

Will extending officers’ working hours to 12 hour days really help? At this point, it seems as if all the faith has been lost in the local government and authorities when it comes to fighting crime. What do you think can and needs to be done to alleviate the crime rate?

  1. Gun laws have very little to do with illegal guns on the street. It doesn’t matter what gun laws are passed, they are not coming in lawfully.

This killing is crazy, and unfortunately, the government and cops can’t stop it. If someone has the intent to murder someone, what could possibly stop them.

I’m a huge supporter of the people, us…black people, controlling our destiny. Taking responsibility for our actions. We will see murders forever if we continue raising children the way we do and parents acting pretty much like children.

Charmaine Wilson is another, not to make light of it, stories that tug on the heart strings bc she was involved in the streetlife, similar to the Dawson Family, but in a month or so, she will be a distant memory and nothing will have changed.

Between the lead crisis and irresponsibilty, we are living in a war zone. But bottomline, the killers out here aren’t subscribing to the calls for help or these non violence campaigns. Cops working 2 more hours only do what street cameras do, pish the crime to the next block.

      • I agree with part of what was just said, mainly about this kids being raised right. Which most of them are not. Granted you do have children that arent raised properly and just had to grow up if you will, that dont go out here killing folks senselessly. However thats few and far between. Then people always talk about what someone should have did. Crazy thing is they may have already done and went thru the proper channels, just like that mother. Mostly they give her the run arounds and as we have seen they never moved her. Now these kids are without a mother. She was killed protecting her babies!!!! In front of them!!! So now you have all these children without a mother. Only the universe knows how their life will turn out…..they could end up right and the middle of the same mess they claimed her. Or on drugs, and if that happenes the cycle repeats it self. They messed up but they have kids, kids live a hard life for one reason or another with no way out feelung hopeless. Now you have more children growing up the same way….
