[QOTW] Is Porn A Part Of The Problem? [Written By Brandon Williams]

Sex has always been a hot button topic in society. As history has shown us, perspectives and ideas about sex and sexuality have been a part of an ever-evolving discussion as to what is or aren’t decent or taboo. The internet plays an incredibly large part in this discussion because there is unlimited access to more and more sexual content, even providing the ability to partake in it personally by allowing things to be seen and posted on social media sites like Facebook and Instagram. But another part of this problem that people neglect to discuss is pornography. Now we know that this is not a new industry by a long shot, but there was a time when access to pornography was able to be strictly monitored by only being sold in certain types of stores. If it was sold in a convenience store then it was concealed in plastic and you needed an ID to purchase it. But the internet has made it so that there is an almost infinite supply of pornography that is accessible by any and all ages with no discretion or restrictions to prevent those who aren’t of the proper age of accountability to access such materials. There are countless sites where all you have to do is click and go, there are no questions asked, no need to sign up, and it’s absolutely free so there’s nothing to stop a curious child from clicking and absorbing things that their eyes have no business seeing at such an age where they can’t fully understand or comprehend what’s going on. So my question to you all this week is, do you think that this ease of access has sort of been in the background fueling the increased sexuality we see in society today? Do you think that if pornography was still as highly monitored as it once was, would we still be seeing the overflow of sexual activity and awareness in underage youth or would it be lessened due to lack of access?
