[Happy Birthday Chasity!] How Did I Get Here? [Written By Chasity Pryor]

I found my passion for writing while in the 6th grade. I was in a bad place and I needed an outlet, a way to express how I was feeling without actually speaking it aloud. I had spent a majority of the school year being bullied by people who made me feel like I did not matter. At 12 years old, I was still impressionable so, every insult hit me like a punch in the gut and really messed with my confidence to the point where I started to believe all the mean things that people were saying about me. I had all of these emotions built up and i needed a way to let go of it all. Therefore, I decided to write.
It started small with little notes that I would write to myself and then hide so that no one would find them. Then one day my mother bought me an actual journal and I just thought that it was the greatest thing.
Over the course of 13 years I have written in 16 journals, most of which i do not have anymore. It was not until I got to high school that I started to get into writing poetry and stories. They were not necessarily the best but it was a start. English was always my best and favorite subject. I use to get 100% on my report cards (people did not like me because of that. Crazy, right?) However, all of that is to say this, writing got me through a tough time, and it still does. It will always be something that I turn to when I need to let go.
With writing, I also found a love for editing. This love grew deeper when I started college. I would edit resumes, cover letters, essays, and more for people. Recently, I edited a screenplay for a good friend of mine and I have something in the works right now that could really help me to get my foot in the door once i graduate college. My love for editing is how I ended up becoming a part of the best team, the Uncommonrealist team.  Since then, a bunch of opportunities have come my way and I have to thank Shae for that. She gave me a platform that people are taking notice of and she has helped me to become more confident in my abilities.
I want to make a difference in the world and writing can do that. I want to write the book that will help someone through a tough time, the book that offers solace to those who are grieving, a mental home for someone who may be lost. Words are a powerful tool. They can be destructive and constructive. They can build you up or tear you down. Whatever words my book may contain, my ultimate goal is for those words to touch someone’s heart.
I hope to stay within the editing field as well. What a world of difference a good edit can make. It can turn a C paper into an A paper, a choppy paper into a smooth read, and a no into a yes. Anyone can write. We can sit and write all day. But, not everyone can edit. Editing for me is like taking an empty house with a beautiful exterior and decorating the interior to be just as beautiful so that when all’s said and done, everything comes together.
I don’t know what my future holds but I do know that it is promising. I’ve made it to see 25 years. Here’s to 25 more years of making a difference! *clinks wine glass*
With Love,
Chasity
